- 40mm bonded polyurethane core
- Thermal break at every section joint
- Full perimeter seals, all four edges
An insulated garage door has a foam core between two skins rather than a single sheet of steel or aluminium. In Benoni people buy one for the usual reason and for one that is particular to this town. The usual reason is temperature, where the garage has become a workshop, a gym or an office. The particular one is condensation.
Insulated garage doors we supply in Benoni
- Insulated steel sectional doors, the standard and strongest option.
- Insulated aluminium-faced doors where the finish matters on the elevation.
- Insulated roller shutter doors for low-headroom garages that still need the performance.
- Full perimeter seals, without which the insulation in the panel does very little.
Condensation on a single-skin door
A cold single-skin panel in a humid town runs with water on the inside on winter mornings, and everything stored against it suffers: tools rust, boxes soften, and the bottom of the door corrodes from the inside where nobody looks. An insulated panel keeps the inner face closer to the garage temperature and the condensation largely stops. On the lakeside streets that is the strongest argument for insulation, ahead of heat.
Garages that have become rooms
Where a garage is a gym, an office, a studio or a flatlet, the door is the largest uninsulated surface in the room and it usually faces the sun. An insulated panel with proper seals changes that space more than anything else the same money would buy.
Seals matter as much as the core
An insulated panel with a fifteen-millimetre gap under it is a compromised door. Bottom, side and head seals are part of the specification rather than an accessory, and on damp ground they are what keeps moisture out at floor level.
Noise and stiffness
An insulated door runs quieter and is far more rigid than a single skin, so it tracks better on a wide opening and dents less in hail. Both are real benefits on the East Rand.
Insulated doors for business
Temperature-controlled areas in the food and process buildings around Apex need insulated curtains with proper sealing, and often fast operation so the opening is not standing open while the temperature leaves. That is a different specification from a domestic door and we quote it as one.
Weight, balance and the operator
Insulated doors are heavier. The balance components are rated to the finished door and the operator is sized on the real mass. Fitting an insulated door onto hardware set up for a single-skin door is the most common reason one fails early.
What an insulated garage door costs in Benoni
More than a single-skin door, and worth it where the garage is used for something or where condensation is a problem. Priced on opening size, facing material, finish and automation. We will tell you when you do not need one.
Common questions
About insulated garage doors
If the garage is attached to the house, has been converted into a room, or has a bedroom above it — yes, clearly. If it is a detached garage storing a car and a lawnmower, the money is better spent on a heavier gauge or better locking.
Our standard sectional door uses a 40mm section with a rigid polyurethane core bonded to both skins. Because the foam bonds rather than sits loose, the section is stiffer than a single sheet of the same weight and does not drum.
Noticeably, in both directions: the boom of the door itself and traffic noise off the street. It is often the real reason people upgrade when there is a bedroom over the garage.
Low-headroom track kits recover part of the requirement. Beyond that a sectional door will not fit, and we get part of the benefit with an insulated roll-up curtain and heavier perimeter sealing instead. Measure lintel to ceiling and send us the number.
